For Dimple Fouzdar, the world of scents held a magnetic charm from an early age. While studying law in Calcutta, her fascination with fragrances grew, driven by their unique ability to evoke emotions and leave lasting impressions. This allure eventually guided her to Grasse, France, widely regarded as the birthplace of perfumery. Under the mentorship of skilled professionals, she refined her craft, gaining the expertise needed to create something extraordinary—a signature scent that blends ingredients from around the globe. MAISON DE FOUZDAR
In September 2021, Dimple introduced Maison De Fouzdar, a brand that embodies luxury, precision, and innovation. The distinguishing hallmarks of Maison De Fouzdar lie in its unparalleled longevity, high concentration, and sophisticated fragrances. These qualities have earned the brand international acclaim, with distributors across Europe, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom eager to share these exceptional creations with discerning customers worldwide.
The journey to establish Maison De Fouzdar was not without obstacles. Creating fragrances suited to India’s hot and humid climate required extensive research and development. Additionally, designing premium packaging for a market where perfumery is still emerging as an industry presented significant challenges. Yet, with relentless perseverance and unwavering commitment to excellence, Dimple and her team overcame these hurdles, setting a new benchmark for luxury fragrances in India.
Dimple’s inspiration for Maison De Fouzdar stems from her childhood memories. Her parents’ love for collecting perfumes left an indelible impression on her, and she often played with their collection as a child. These early experiences sparked her dream of creating scents that encapsulate emotions and preserve cherished memories. Each fragrance from Maison De Fouzdar carries a piece of Dimple’s journey, infused with moments that resonate deeply with her.
Dimple’s fearless and ambitious nature drives her pursuit of excellence. Her motto, “Work Hard, Play Hard,” reflects her zest for life and dedication to her craft. Instead of being drawn to tourist attractions during her travels, she immersed herself in exploring unique fragrances from different countries. This passion led her to curate a diverse collection of scents capable of making anyone feel extraordinary.
The brand debuted with an impressive lineup of fragrances, including Oud Safran, Oud Imperial, Èlixir Extrême, and Provocateur, which received widespread acclaim. With a commitment to innovation, Maison De Fouzdar has since expanded its offerings to include candles and scented hair mists, introducing new aromas each season.
Today, Maison De Fouzdar has carved its niche in the luxury market, with a presence in an impressive number of premium stores across India. Dimple’s vision for the future is ambitious—she aims to position Maison De Fouzdar in duty-free and high-end perfume stores worldwide. Transparent and passionate in her business dealings, she remains dedicated to crafting unique blends that rival international brands.
As Maison De Fouzdar continues to enchant fragrance enthusiasts, it stands as a testament to Dimple Fouzdar’s enduring dedication to quality and her ability to transform memories into scents that inspire and captivate. In just three years, the brand has established itself as a beacon of luxury, innovation, and elegance, poised for even greater success in the years to come.
1. Your childhood played a significant role in inspiring Maison De Fouzdar. Could you share a glimpse into those early years when your passion for perfumes began?
Answer: My love for fragrance started at home, thanks to my parents, who were both true aficionados. They had this beautiful tradition of collecting perfumes from every place they traveled to, whether it was a classic European scent or something unique from the Middle East. Growing up, fragrance wasn’t just about smelling good; it was part of our identity. Scent defined our home, marked special occasions, and even added depth to everyday moments. For us, smelling good was almost a family value—it’s just something we took seriously. So, without even realizing it, I grew up with this deep-rooted appreciation for the world of fragrance.
2. Coming from a law background, what was the moment you realized that perfumery was your true calling?
Answer: During my years studying law, I found myself constantly drawn away from the structured path in front of me. I would go through the motions of my studies, but my heart just wasn’t in it. I’ve always been a creative soul, craving an outlet to express myself in a more artistic way. After my studies, instead of diving into law, I joined my father’s business in hospital equipment. It was a valuable experience, but something was still missing. I longed to create, to work with my senses. Gradually, I found myself gravitating toward perfumery, which allowed me to combine creativity with something I’d grown up loving. That’s when I realized that creating scents was where my heart truly lay.
3. You studied perfumery in Grasse, the perfume capital of the world. How was that experience, and what impact did it have on your journey?
Answer: I’ll never forget my first visit to Grasse; I went there initially as a tourist, curious but not fully aware of the depth behind each fragrance. Experiencing Grasse firsthand was transformative. I found myself surrounded by artists who could tell entire stories through a blend of notes. The art and precision I saw in crafting a perfume—the way they balanced ingredients, sourced materials, and experimented with combinations—had me completely hooked. I knew I needed to learn the craft to understand what goes into creating something truly unique. Studying there solidified my path and gave me the foundation to build Maison de Fouzdar on authenticity, quality, and a deep respect for the art of perfumery.
4. Now three years into this industry, Maison De Fouzdar has reached a global audience and carved out its own space. Take us back to the moment you decided it was time to create a niche perfume brand.
Answer: My decision to create Maison de Fouzdar stemmed from a desire to offer something unique. Designer fragrances were—and still are—everywhere, but I noticed a lack of dedicated niche perfume houses that dive deep into creating truly exclusive, high-quality scents. I wanted to build something authentic that combined the elegance of French perfumery with the richness of Indian heritage. Maison de Fouzdar was my way of putting India on the global fragrance map, giving people worldwide a touch of French finesse through an Indian lens. It was also about inspiring a sense of pride in our people—showing that India could produce a globally recognized luxury brand.
5. What does Maison De Fouzdar stand for as a brand?
Answers: Maison de Fouzdar is built on two core pillars: quality and representation. Quality is non-negotiable for us. Every fragrance is meticulously crafted to be rich, long-lasting, and impactful. And as a brand, we represent the fusion of global artistry, showcasing an Indian-rooted brand that can stand among the world’s finest. We are passionate about redefining how luxury fragrance from India is perceived globally, bringing sophistication and authenticity to each bottle.
6. Could you walk us through the process of creating a Maison De Fouzdar perfume, from formulation to the final product?
Answer: Creating a Maison de Fouzdar perfume is a meticulous process that typically spans three to six months. We start with an inspiration, often rooted in Indian elements, and work to perfect it through a series of rigorous steps. Our focus is on quality, performance, and sillage, ensuring each fragrance has a powerful presence. This involves multiple meetings with skilled perfumers, countless rounds of adjustments, and a crucial maceration phase, allowing the scents to mature to their full complexity. Every detail matters—down to ensuring a single spray can fill a room, giving an immediate, immersive experience.
